KENYA STREET SCOUTS

For over 10 years now 1st Hampden Park Scout Group has been a keen supporter of Kenya Street Scouts. During the last visit when the group was represented in 2007 a very large party including the Eastbourne District Band, went out to celebrate the centenary of Scouting.

This time Akela,Baggy & their daughter Sacha, who is the Explorer Scout Leader, attended together and actually could see for themselves what Akela had been talking about for all those years.

We had an eye opening experience in Kenya seeing how the Street Scouts lived and some of the projects that were supported by East Sussex Scouts.

We also made a presentation to a local school which a lady names Rosie who Akela met on her first visit and she is part of a group within the school, with uniforms purchased from money collected by the members of the group.

We were also able to fund a goat which would be used for breeding and its milk so people could live on the money they earnt.

There are many photos on the Kenya photo link that tells part of the story from out visit and we will aimed to keep you updated with the latest happenings in Kenya with the Street Scouts.

As many of you will know last year a group camp was held at Bushy Wood based on Kenya and it was very true to the way things happen their, where all the young people look after and help each other to survive.
